The Los Angeles County District Attorney charged former Miami Dolphin, Jonathan Martin, with 1 count of carrying a loaded weapon and 4 counts of making criminal threats for the disturbing image that Martin posted on Instagram on February 23, 2018.
The Instagram post contained a photo of a shotgun, surrounded by several shotgun shells, and was captioned: “When you’re a bully victim, & a coward your options are suicide or revenge.”
Notably, Martin tagged @68incognito (Richie Incognito), @mikepouncey (Mike Pouncey), @tjtaylr, and @jamesdunleavy in that same post.
In 2013, Martin famously accused his former teammate, Richie Incognito, of being the ringleader in the Miami Dolphins’ bullying scandal. Mike Pouncey also played on that 2013 Dolphins’ team, and his name surfaced in subsequent investigations of Martin’s bullying accusations as well.
In addition, Martin tagged his high school, Harvard-Westlake, located in Los Angeles, California. Following Martin’s post, Harvard-Westlake closed its school for the day for obvious precautionary reasons.
The responding officers told TMZ Sports that Martin had an ax, a large knife, and a loaded 12-gauge shotgun on his person when he was arrested on February 23, 2018—only a few hours after posting this cryptic message on IG.
Jonathan Martin has not played in the NFL since 2014.
According to TMZ Sports, there is currently a warrant out for Martin’s arrest.
