The NBA announced today that its fans can now vote on all postseason league awards. Fans will now be able to vote for Sixth man, Most Improved Player, Defensive Player of the Year, and Rookie of the Year, in addition to MVP which has included the fan vote since 2010.
Good move by the NBA. Among all the leagues they are the most progressive in terms of fan involvement. This is a great opportunity to engage fans more during the regular season. While many will just vote based on narrative, there will be a segment of NBA fans that engage more with the regular season, potentially watch games outside of their favorite team, possibly even pony up for league pass.
Fan voting begins today and will go through until midnight on April 13hth. Fans can visit nba.com/KiaFanVote to cast their vote or do so on Twitter using the player’s first and last name with the following hashtags to vote:
- #KiaSixth
- #KiaDPOY
- #KiaMIP
- #KiaROY
- #KiaMVP
Fan votes will be tallied and count as 1, with media members doing the rest of the voting per usual.
