For some odd reason, the topic of discussion in regards to Josh Rosen’s draft stock is always his “love for the game.”
In a 2017 interview with Bleacher Report, Rosen addressed the love-for-the-game whispers that have surrounded him throughout his college career, rather poignantly:
If I didn’t love the game, I wouldn’t be out here getting my ass kicked.
Rosen has never been arrested, like Baker Mayfield has. Rosen did not lead the entire NCAA in turnovers, like Sam Darnold did. Rosen did not knock out any women, like Joe Mixon has.
So what are we really talking about here?
The same talking heads that praise the likes of Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, and Andrew Luck for being so cerebral on the football field, are doubting Rosen because he’s “too smart?” What is “too smart?”
According to Bleacher Report, some scouts are even worried that Rosen thinks he knows better than the coaches. Apparently, Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers have never once audibled a coach’s play call then?
One unnamed team executive remarked:
That’s all funny when you’re not getting 50 people fired if you miss on a quarterback. The last thing we need is the face of our team tweeting about the president when we’re on a losing streak.
There you have it folks: when your favorite NFL team is losing consecutive games, and players are getting cut, and staff is getting let go, NFL team executives make sure to take extra precautions so they don’t end up on President Trump’s bad side.
So there’s only one real difference between Rosen and the rest of the QBs in this draft class and the league:
When Tom Brady goes golfing, he’s sporting his “Make America Great Again” hat.
When Josh Rosen hits the links, he’s rocking his “F*ck Trump” hat.
