After a surgery gone tragically wrong, Instagram model Nadinne Bruna now suffers from blurred vision and the vision of a “90-year old”.
Ms Bruna was determined to have her hazel eyes transformed to a shade of grey. With the procedure to inject silicone into her eyes not approved in the US, she opted to fly to Colombia to have a discounted procedure done.
The results are several shades of horrifying, here are more details courtesy of Daily Mail
‘Before this surgery my eyes were completely healthy. They were in really good condition. I was so naive. ‘Ever since this surgery I have had blurry vision. For about a year my eyes were constantly red and itchy. ‘My pupils, they can’t adjust to light anymore so I’m very photosensitive now too. This surgery completely f***ed up my life. ‘My vision damage is permanent, and I still have to have a cornea transplant and I have cataracts too.’
Ms Bruna, who was left with glaucoma due to damage to her optic nerve, added: ‘After this surgery I went into a deep depression. ‘I’m a very strong person, usually very brave and very smart, but with this I was completely stupid. I trusted the wrong person.
However, attempts to save her sight were unsuccessful and she was forced to seek medical attention back in the US. A team of ophthalmologists at Miami’s Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, led by Dr Ranya Habash, removed the dangerous implants last September. Dr Habash has since said procedures to change the colours of eyes like the one Ms Bruna opted for cause ‘irreparable’ damage to the eyes. She said: ‘The issue with injecting a silicone plate into the eye is that it clogs the drain of the eye, just like as if a sink was blocked. ‘The pressure builds and builds inside the eye, causing inflammation and damaging the structures. ‘There’s a reason these procedures are not FDA approved and that’s because we’ve seen the long-term and irreparable damage they can cause.
In total, the botched surgery has cost her 80% of the vision in her right and 50% in her left. The obvious response is to question her decision making, in which she herself admits was questionable after the fact. Regardless, it’s tragic the pursuit of beauty will cost her a life time of vision.
