More details have emerged about the 2016 deadly boat crash that took the lives of three people including former Miami Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez.
Ralph Fernandez, Jose’s lawyer, claims Fernandez was set up to be robbed per TMZ. New documents state that Fernandez and another passenger Eduardo Rivero were drugged by spiked drinks in a plot to “disorient them and steal the money”. Fernandez was carrying $15,000 cash on the boat that night.
This new information surfaced as the families of Rivero and the third victim Emilio Macias filed civil suit against Fernandez’ estate after investigators confirmed Fernandez’s body tested positive for liquor and cocaine. The boat was in his name so the assumption is he was driving. Fernandez’s lawyer claims the design to drug and steal is what killed them. He also makes his argument that the tragedy was handled by “inexperienced” investigators since no drugs were found at the scene of the crash and the possibility that Jose was not driving the boat at the time of the accident.
