It’s pretty simple. The Cleveland Indians have a racially insensitive name and mascot and each year Native American protesters demonstrate to urge the Cleveland Indians organization to change the name and the Chief Wahoo logo. These group of Indians fans don’t seem to care that this logo is offensive to Native Americans and reacted angrily to the protest.
Their reaction to the protesters is a good lesson on how comfortable some white people are with racism, as long as the racist behavior serves them in some way.
Indians owner Paul Dolan announced earlier this year that the Chief Wahoo logo will no longer appear on player jerseys starting in 2019, but will still appear on merchandise. That means Chief Wahoo will continue to offend Native Americans for the foreseeable future.
