Rams sign rookie, undrafted-free agent, Zack Golditch, who survived the horrendous mass shooting during the Dark Knight Rises, back in 2012, in Aurora, Colorado.
Golditch took a stray bullet straight through the neck during the mass shooting.
Today, Golditch would like to just be known as a football player; however, Golditch knows the gravity of the crime will never outweighed the legacy of his football career.
Twelve people lost their lives that night, and 70 people—including Golditch—were injured as a result of the incident.
Golditch recognizes that he has to make the best of an awful situation:
I never stopped and realized this is part of my story. I shouldn’t push that away, because what I hold on to right now is a story, not just about myself, but about of everyone else. I can carry that and represent them through what I do and how I carry myself…I have to embrace it.
The gunshot narrowly missed hitting some crucial arteries, vertebrae, and Golditch’s skull—all which could have cost Golditch his life that day.
We all know about the ridiculous questions that these NFL executives can sometimes asks potential draftees, and a team actually had the audacity to ask Golditch about a time he faced adversity:
I was a 17-year-old kid going to see a movie, next thing you know I might not have come home that night. For me to still be able to play football, to be able to be a normal person and an able-bodied person is great…I take nothing for granted. This opportunity to continue to live my life today is amazing.
