Texas Bar Owner Doesn’t Know The Issue With His “Shut Up N*gger” Sign to Honor His Favorite Racist Customer

A dead woman’s joke was the purpose of this racist sign.

A sign at a Fort Worth Texas bar read “SHUT UP NIGGER” and the sign, according to The Root, was an obituary for a white woman who used the phrase toward everyone. At the bottom of the racial phrase read “RIP Teresa Kidwell 1-5-16”. The owner, James Emerson,  told Dallas News the woman was a regular at the bar and died in 2016.

Even though the word used is a racial slur, Emerson claims people’s perspectives are wrong.

“It was kind of a joke. It was never indicative of anything racial.”

They removed the sign after two customers posted the photo on Facebook. The two customers, Owen McGrath and Jesse Bunting, happen to be owners of another bar nearby.

“I took a picture because I couldn’t believe it was there,” he told Dallas News.
