Nolan Arenado had the time today. He just didn’t have the experience…
The Colorado Rockies third basement sparked a bench-clearing brawl in the 3rd inning of the Rockies Padres game this afternoon.
Padres starting pitcher, Luis Perdomo, threw a ball that actually went behind Arenado’s whole body while he was standing in the batter’s box, and Arenado immediately threw his bat down, and was ready to give Perdomo the business.
Now, we are all well aware that baseball players are known for a lot of things—none of which include fighting.
Today, Arenado threw several punches…and unsurprisingly, Arenado did not connect on any of those punches.
Fortunately for Arenado, Perdomo ain’t about that life either.
As soon as Arenado threw his bat down on the ground and charged the mound, Perdomo literally started running backwards and calling for back-up.
At one point during the brawl, Padres’s infamous hitting coach, Mark McGwire, even made a cameo in the fight and got in Arenado’s face in an effort to diffuse the situation.
Anybody could have seen this fight coming from a mile away. The Rockies and Padres have played each other 7 times this year, and a batter has been hit in 6 of those games already.
In the long-run, this fight is going to go down as a tough L for Arenado because he got thrown out of the game today, will likely be facing a suspension by the MLB sometime tomorrow, and he didn’t even land a single punch.
