It was rumored that Meek Mill would be released from prison today after a new court hearing but his lawyer Joe Tacopina quickly responded by saying that there is no truth to that. The District Attorney’s Office in Philadelphia along with Mayor Jim Kenney both want Meek freed but Judge Genece Brinkley still refuses to let him out on bail.
Meek could still be on his way out soon though as the DA called today for a new trial to be set, according to NBC 10 in Philadelphia. Assistant DA Liam Riley also questioned Brinkley about Reginald Graham, who was the officer that initially arrested Meek a decade ago and used excessive force on him.
After the request for a new trial though, Brinkley still wasn’t having it. Instead, she has set a hearing for June 18. Meek’s defense team wants Judge Sheila Woods-Skipper to take over the case but Brinkley is saying that she would need to speak with Woods-Skipper first.
It seems as if Meek won’t be getting out if Brinkley continues to handle the case. She has been clearly showing a bias against him with favors asked and refusing to acknowledge the corruption within the Philadelphia police force.
