Last week, the rematch between Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez was finalized by a last-minute deal as GGG finally reached an agreement. Canelo’s promoter Oscar De La Hoya recently appeared on TMZ Sports and said that even he had to put up some of his own money to save this fight.
“GGG wanted a bigger piece of the pie. It was a matter of a few million dollars,” said De La Hoya. “I couldn’t get it from Canelo’s side because he was gonna stick to his guns … So I had to come up with the difference.”
Canelo was going to get most of the purse for the fight regardless since he’s the bigger attraction despite GGG’s stardom. We’ll see who’s the better fighter once and for all after last August’s controversial draw in Vegas.
