The drama swirling around Kawhi Leonard and the San Antonio Spurs has reached a new level according to Stephen A. Smith. Smith came on ESPN’s First Take, and announced that according to sources, Leonard spoke to Gregg Popovich face to face and essentially declared that he only wants to be in Los Angeles, preferably the Lakers. This puts an exorbitant amount of pressure on the Spurs organization, as it’s a risk for most teams in the league to trade valuable assets for what is essentially a one-year rental because Leonard will be a free agent after this season. Ostensibly, the best scenario would be to trade Leonard to the Lakers because they have to get something before the trade deadline occurs in February 2019.
