While Mayweather is ranked #1 on Forbes richest celebrities list, Manny Pacquiao has essentially blown all of his money. He isn’t broke in the traditional sense, and he never will be because he is considered a GOD in his home country, but for someone who made close to $500 million in his boxing, he still has to fight to keep up his lifestyle.
The $150 million he made from fighting Mayweather by all accounts is gone. He didn’t lose in the traditional way, he basically is financing a full country of poor people and an extensive entourage. He has been robbed by promoters, managers, and financial advisers over the years and that is why he doesn’t want to fight in the US because he is staring at a $20 million IRS debt.
There are fights out there that would make Pacquiao a lot of money, but not Mayweather money and that is why he is calling him via Larry Brown Sports.
Pacquiao picked up his 60th career win and captured the WBA welterweight title when he defeated Lucas Matthysse by TKO on Sunday, and he said he is very open to defending the belt against Mayweather.
“Mayweather? If he decides to go back to boxing then that is the time we are going to call the shots,” Pacquiao told reporters when asked about a possible rematch, according to ESPN 5. “I have the belt, so it’s up to him. If he wants to come back in boxing let’s do a second one.”
Pacquiao didn’t look as bad as people made it out to be versus Jeff Horn and people need to realize that Lucas Matthysee is washed, so while it was an excellent victory it doesn’t mean the Pacquiao of old is back. It means as Tim Bradley said, Old Pacquiao can still beat C and B Level fighters.
Mayweather seems to be fine with finances thanks to the Conor McGregor fight, so I doubt we will be seeing this rematch.
