With actor Daniel Craig vacating the role as fictional British agent “James Bond” the door might be opening for Idris Elba to finally fill the void. It is being reported by Esquire.com that producers are leaning toward casting the London born actor. In the past Elba has been stern about not playing the legendary role, and has even suggested a woman take on the role of Agent 007.
The Independent quotes director Antoine Fuqua conversation with Barbara Broccoli (daughter of Albert Broccoli, producer of James Bond films) “its time” for a non-white actor to take on the role.
A big reason this hasn’t happened sooner is the backlash of fans who can’t stomach the thought of non-white man playing a fictional character, but with the success of films in recent history like the Academy Award-winning “Moonlight”, the blockbuster Marvel film “Black Panther”, Idris Elba could bring “Bond” to a whole new fan base.
