The debut for Johnny Manziel in the Canadian Football League didn’t go too well.
Okay, that was a massive understatement, but at least he knows it too.
Manziel completed 11 of 20 passes for 104 yards, and threw four interceptions in a blowout loss for his rookie game for the Montreal Alouettes. While speaking on a barstool podcast, Manziel said “It’s humbling to come back after a couple years off and that’s your first game and that’s the result you get.”
In speaking with some of the Canadian media,
“I feel this team has faith in me. I hope they continue to have faith,” Manziel said on Tuesday, the first time he has addressed the media this week. “It’s not easy. You sit there and watch your quarterback throw four (interceptions), especially with all the hype and buzz that was surrounding everything. You flush it and move on.
“I stood in front of the guys after the game. I put a lot of that on myself. I take pride in what I put on film, the way I play the game. It wasn’t a good day.”
The eerily similar thing is that this team is the equivalent to the Cleveland Browns of the NFL: A franchise that has had losing seasons for a long time now.
Manziel was benched by the fourth quarter, losing 50-11 but we’ll see what the future holds for the 25-year old quarterback this season.
