When rapper Cam’ron teamed up with Atrak and decided to release an EP called Federal Reserve, there was some genuine surprise from folks in the music industry and fans alike. Despite that surprise, their first single ‘Humphrey’ was met with general favorable ratings and I have to say it’s a pretty good song in my personal opinion.
Interestingly enough though, there has been speculation regarding some of Cam’s specific lyrics used in the new song. Specifically, his opening lines. Listen for yourself below, first.
There were some, courtesy of Miss Info, that thought perhaps Cam was referencing Jay Z’s cousin ‘B-High’ and perhaps admitting that he wanted to fight him. In some type of beef that still stems from Hov’s and Cam’s old beef. But apparently, it was actually a reference to a boxer.
“Dame said I’m bout it cuz I wanna fight B-Hop.
I said I’ll fuck him up after 2 months of detox.
True. Besides that, 8 mill from Reebok,
I take him to the bar, Pa, that’s 33 shots…”
Turns out it was a reference to Bernard Hopkins himself.
Cam’ron tells me he might actually get in the boxing ring and fight Hopkins sometime this year. For pay-per-view. Obviously.
Is Cam intimidated by Philly’s former champ Hopkins? Well, the boxer is still in fighting form but he is 49 years old now and, as Cam puts it, hasn’t knocked anyone out since ’05.
Oh, by the way… “Humphrey” is Bernard Hopkins’ middle name.
Would you be interested in a fight between Hopkins and Cam’ron? Would you take Hopkins to win handily, despite his advanced age?
