I am a big hockey fan.

A lot of people just assume that black people don’t like hockey, but that is simply not true.  It is a great sport.  I could do without the fighting, but there is nothing better than a suspenseful hockey game.

One of the things we like to do on BSO is spotlight young ladies who aren’t just beautiful, but also who are making a mark in this new era of media.

Jennifer Brix is a perfect example of that, she relaunched her website today and if you haven’t bookmarked by now you will after reading this interview.

Today you are relaunching your site JenniferBrix.com, tell us a little about Jennifer Brix the person, the brand and site. How you envision it all working in the future?

As a person? I feel as though I’m fun, intelligent and alluring, I really want this to come across in the Jennifer Brix brand as well. Aside from branding myself, establishing an online identity and contributing to my niche, I started JenniferBrix.com due to my passion for writing, pop culture and current events. I wanted to find a voice in blogging atypical of the popular, negative gossip blogs that also cater to my demographic.

You do more things than just “blog”, you have done interviews with entertainers, covered events, on air radio and more, how do you fight the perception that you are just a “blogger”?

Well, I want my image to be strongly associated with my brand; I’m not just behind the computer. I want to be a reputable source for entertainment news, be it on-air radio (Power 98 in Charlotte, NC), my celebrity interviews, or event hosting. The term ‘blogger’ definitely limits your capabilities.

What do you see as the challenges being a female in media? What advice would you give to women who are just starting out?

I’m a realist, and realistically, if you’re a female it’s sometimes hard to be taken seriously in any industry because a double standard still remains in our society. On that note, I would tell any woman trying to establish herself to guard her reputation with her life because it’s truly all that you have at the end of the day. Once your reputation (whether personal or professional) is ruined, it’s extremely difficult, if not impossible, to get back. Be smart, think about how you want others to perceive you.

I found your site because of some of your Kardashian posts, what are your thoughts on the Kardashian clan?

I think they’re geniuses. Every move that they make is calculated and there’s always a method to their madness. Love their entrepreneurial spirit, marketing savvy and strategic publicity stunts. Love them or hate them, you know who they are & what they’re doing. There’s a reason the Kardashians made a collective $65 million in 2010.

Shows like the Basketball Wives and Love & Hip Hop have started to blend sports, entertainment and music all into one, do you think this is a positive thing that so much stuff is now out in the open or is just all entertainment?

Both negative and positive. Reality television and social networking sites such as Twitter take away the mystery of celebrity status, often exposing prominent media figures for what they really are and eliminating some of their appeal. However, I think shows like ‘Basketball Wives’ are positive for athletes (such as Eric Williams) and women like Evelyn Lozada — would we really know who they were otherwise?

Did you play any sports growing up?

I sure did! I was center and power forward on the varsity basketball team in grade school. Then I lost my athleticism in high school. Basketball is still my favorite sport though!

What accomplishment are you most proud of in regards of your career so far?

Probably my very first interview, moreso the scenario/situation than the opportunity. It was my freshman year of college and I was 18. I was invited to Fantasia Barrino’s dinner party at her home for an interview. I was there with a good friend but when it came down to the interview, I was on my own.

I was the creator of a 6-month old blog standing beside Good Morning America, Fox News and VH1 among other major media outlets. Nervous is an understatement. Luckily, everything went really well, but that moment definitely set the tone for my career pace.

Would you ever consider doing reality TV?

Ha! I’ve never considered that but I would never be opposed to it.

How did you get started in the modeling industry?

Well I got started In modeling when I graduated from college, its something my family always tried to get me into since both my mom and grandmother were involved in the industry. And since growing up my main focus was sports and getting my degree I decided to wait to pursue modeling and acting after I finished school.

I started with small fashion shows, shoots and plays to build my resume and gain experience. I also got on set experience by doing back round work in movies and tv shows. And I also took acting classes.

I found all of my work through websites and meeting people. I grinded for anything I got.

What do you think of when you here the term “urban model”? If you were referred to as that would it be offensive?

When I here the term “Urban Model” I think of a model that isn’t seen as high fashion she’s not that typical thin, white or European model that would be featured in Vogue Wearing Vivienne Westwood for example. An Urban model would have all the model looks but have a more curvier body type, a model that is of a different ethnicity such as black or Hispanic she’s known as an Ethnic model. She would appeal physically to a larger audience. This type of model could be doing anything from king magazine to Essence and maybe be seen on Rip the runway perhaps.

And no I would not be offended by this title I am a women of color and I would get put in that urban category because of that as well as because of my body type. But I would however like to appeal and work for a larger demographic not just to the “urban” culture, but seen on a larger scale. And since I’m 5’11 and have unique features like my freckles I think I would be able to crossover to many different venues.

I talk about “The Thirst” a lot. What is your feelings on men in how they should approach women and can they been too thirsty so to speak?

Lol at “the thrist”, well most men who are immature could be classified as thirsty. these are the men that don’t know how to speak to a women with respect. Saying things like “hey ma let me holla at ya” or “shawty you so fine” and things like that don’t cut it. We are no longer 16 please approach me like you have common sense and have some kind of education. Also going to hard is not necessary fellas, most women know right away if they are interested in a guy the extra phone calls and facebook pokes make you looks “thirsty” and that’s No bueno.

Imma sucka for a nice smile and dimples, approach me with a smile and a compliment and show me that you know how to speak to a lady and that you have common sense and most importantly make sure that you can make eye contact it shows me how interested you really are ; )

Oh and 1 more thing if she says she has a man she probably does but more importantly guys it means she’s NOT interested. its sad how I use that line all the time and they keep asking for my # anyway aka “the thirst” lol

How has social media allowed you to increase your exposure and recognition?

The usage of Social model has been huge so far in my modeling in acting career. I have met amazing photographers, stylists, casting agents and many more people in the industry on twitter and Facebook alone. I actually found out about a huge casting for Essence Magazine on twitter which I booked. The usage of the internet alone has become 1 of the biggest platforms for models careers. I have come to find out this industry is all about who you know and who knows you with social networks you have so many important people and information at your fingertips and they have instant access to you.

Modeling has become like rapping and blogging in that it seems like everyone thinks they can do it, can you explain in your mind what separates the real models from the Twodel?

I have seen my fair share of the “twitter n facebook models” and I say to each its on every women wants to feel beautiful and if taking that bathroom pic and calling yourself a model does it then go ahead girl lol.

But to me a “real” model is someone getting paid to model and help sell a product, things such as Clothing, shoes, toothpaste etc. Modeling is just advertising and marketing to help that item sell so if your helping to sell that item your a legit model.

As far as these women modeling there body that’s what’s there trying to sell so I guess there modeling also lol
But then you have the people who are doing shoots and things in order to pursue it as a career and get more work. I call it simply just building your resume and gaining experience and exposure.

Are you into sports? If so what is your favorite and did you ever compete in any sports while growing up?

Yes I’m such a tomboy I LOVE SPORTS. basketball, football,tennis,track n field and even hockey. Basketball is my heart it was my first love. I spent more time playing ball growing up then anything else. Basketball was my escape my stress reliever and my boiyfriend, it made me that popular girl. I wasn’t known for my looks believe it or not when I was younger lol it was my success n sports I was one of the guys.

My dad played for the Giants and Bills so football was on I’m my house all the time. My dad hoped for boys to follow in his footsteps but instead he had me n my lil sister Leah who excelled in basketball. I received a full basketball scholarship to D1 Monmouth Univ. N jerz. I play the 2/3 I’m something like an athletic version of Ray Allen I can shoot the lights out and have a mean pull up, but yet I’m very fast always the first one down the court and jump pretty high I’m very athletic and I was also known as “miss shot blocker” I have very long arms so I blocked and altered a lot of shots.

I also was a star track athlete in high school I was top in the state and I hold high school records in the 200 and long jump.

What can we expect from you in the year 2011?

You can expect a lot from me this year. I took a break from modeling and acting and tried this whole corporate thing but I realize its not for me I need be doing what makes me happy so I plan on following my dreams again in this field. I’m planning on signing to a new agency which will lead to more work and I should be walking Miami swim fashion week this summer. I also plan on expanding my acting career and do more correspondent work. You will be seeing a lot more of me in the months to come. One last thing since a lot of people have been asking me about it, my website will be coming soon.

At first I don’t think a lot of people took the Lingerie League seriously, they figured it would be like Playboy models pillow fighting with a football. But I think now that people after watching can see you young ladies aren’t playing around. What do you think about the change of perception of the LFL?

I think it is amazing! We are not just “hot girls pillow fighting” we are real athletes going H.A.M. on the field. A lot of work goes into the final product that all the fans are able to see. We train hard tactically, physically, and mentally to be fully prepared for the intense games. There is nothing out there like the Lingerie Football League. It doesn’t matter what got you to a game, but I promise once you watch it, you will become a fan!

From an outside observer what do you think about the NFL Lockout?

Whenever two parties have to communicate financial changes, it is almost always difficult. Especially when we are talking about billions of dollars in the NFL. Hopefully they come to some type of agreement that benefits both the players and the owners. BUT in the mean time the LFL is on and going strong!

If the NFL lockout lingers on, do you think LFL can fill the gap for football fans?

Absolutely! The LFL has every exciting element of football with an extra perk, beautiful woman! True football fans got to love it! We run real plays from a detailed playbook, we take each game seriously and play with tons of emotion and passion, and last but not least we serve up some bone crunching hits that are guaranteed to get the crowd jumping out of their seats! As a growing league, it has the potential to be one of the most watched, women’s sport out there.

How did you get involved with LFL? Were you always an athlete?

Funny story! When I was in college I had a friend tell me,

“ Yo..There’s a league where girls play football… like REAL football except they’re in lingerie.” I thought it was a joke until I randomly saw it on TV one night. Well long story short a year later, I was competing in a Hooters Bikini contest, (yes I’m a Hooters Girl) and it just so happened that the coaches and players from the LFL’s Los Angles Temptation where there promoting. The players approached me, we clicked and the rest was history. I have always been an athlete growing up. I played soccer, volleyball, basketball and ran track all at a high competitive level. And now I am, a two time Lingerie Football League World Champ!! Great feeling!

Part of the appeal of the LFL of course playing to the two things that men love the most, scantily clad women and sports, how is it being a sex symbol?

LOL.. I’m flattered that people see me as a, “sex symbol”. However, I don’t focus all my attention on it. I think it’s awesome that we get to be sexy on the field while playing a competitive as well as physical sport. We just might be the only female athletes that HAVE to go through hair and make-up before every game just to end up getting all sweaty… haha! I love it!

Do you have groupies? I was always curious if guys or girls for that matter stalk you out like a NBA or NFL player?

Ha! Yea, we do have “groupies” and I think it comes with the territory of playing any sport. Luckily I haven’t had any personal experiences or encounters with those who take it way to far. For the most part they are just extra loving fans! KiSS KiSS and iHEART them all.

You are in phenomenal shape, with summer coming up what tips can you give the ladies on keeping everything looking nice and tight?

Aw thank you! There’s really no secret, to keeping everything looking nice and tight. Google it! Ha! Just kidding.

You have to do some type of physical exercise, eat right in moderation, try not to deprive your body of its nutrients and some form of cardio cannot hurt. I personally do not go to the gym (seriously) BUT for me, just being active in any way I can is my type of workout.

Beyond the LFL what are your other outside interests?

I am very passionate and have a lot of interests. One of many is sewing! Since I was 8 years old I have been attached to my mom’s sewing machine. I’m a designer, it is in my blood! I recently did a promotional event with my football team in Manhattan Beach, Ca. where I designed and created 10 custom bikinis from my line, OCHi COLLECTiON. I received amazing feedback, so expect to see more of my collection very soon!

In 2011 what can we expect from you?

2011 is going to be HUGE!! You can expect to see the launch of my clothing line OCHi COLLECTiON, more fitness modeling/commercials in the near future and of course Lingerie Football baybeee!! Looking to 3 peat!

1- How did you get into modeling?

Getting into modeling was never something I was interested in. My mom is a former beauty queen, so it was always her dream to follow in her footsteps. At the age of 17 she brought me to a model search for the clothing line Ecko and made it as a finalist. Unfortunately I didn’t win the competition but it opened many modeling opportunities for me afterward.

2- On your twitter page you describe yourself as Socialite, I know that has different meaning to different people, what is your definition?

I refer to myself as a “socialite” only because I’m well known in my social scene here in Miami and I know everyone.

3- What type of sports are you into and did you ever play any?

Growing up I was always into sports. I ran track, played volleyball and tennis which I still do to keep in shape.

4- You are also a designer and stylist tell us a little bit about that work?

My work as a stylist consists of many things. Everything from putting together specific garments and accessories for just about any event. Rearranging my client’s closet and wardrobe by removing outdated garments, searching for items that will complement their figure and personal shopping. I have a swimwear line in the works, with that project I design all the swimsuits myself. When it comes to constructing the swimsuit, I have a seamstress that makes the samples for me.

5- What are your thoughts on social media? How does it best serve you?

Social media is a great thing especially for entertainers and models. It allows you to promote yourself, to people all over the world. It best serves me because it allows me to post pictures and get booked for jobs. without having to physically attend a casting call.

6- How do you fight the stereotype that you are just another pretty face?

Not only am I a pretty face but I’m a smart woman, and I have goals in life. These days just having looks will only get you so far. It’s sad that some women think they can go through life with just that, but you need to have ambition.

7- Being a “model” is as common as someone saying they are a “Rapper”, how do you stand out from the crowd?

Being a model is very common these days but no two models are ever the same. We all bring something different to this industry. In my opinion we all stand out from the crowd, not just myself. We are all unique.

8- In 2011 what should we be looking for from you?

2011 is my year and you will be seeing a lot of me. From the magazine covers to the runway, I hope to be everywhere.

Candy Girls on E! was really the first show of it’s kind. How do you feel when you see other shows like the Love and Hip Hop and Basketball Wives biting a bit off what you, young ladies started?

I’m actually happy that we were able to pave the way for more shows of the same nature. It’s entertainment no matter how ratchet things may seem. We as women have played a large part in hip hop & have played the silent back seat passenger for so long. So it’s nice to put a voice/personality with a face. Or just to hear the other side of the story.

You have done a few music videos, how you you feel about being describe as a “Video Vixen”, do you take it as a compliment or a put down?

I don’t take it as a compliment or a put down. That description has been around long before I entered the business. If I’m called that it’s not bad because the general population doesn’t even know where the 2 words stem from. They only use it as a description because they associate you with co-starring in music videos.

How much reality is in reality TV?

It’s just like anyone’s everyday life. If I wake up & go to the mall the objective is to spend money. So once the scenario is put together I walk in and whatever takes place is my reality. There has to be a story line to keep the interest going. Without a story line believe it or not some people would just be boring. Bottom line we didn’t use a script!

How do you handle the stereotypes and perception that video models or just models in general are groupies and gold diggers?

I don’t handle it at all. I chose this business so sometimes I might have to show people more than others that, that is not my MO. The thing about it with me is whether I was working in this industry or not I wouldn’t be with a broke ni**a. Why would I? I’m not broke.

I’m surrounded with people from all walks of life that all types of different things to offer. I consider myself and asset & not a liability! Groupie? There are lots of them for every category/profession. I’ve never gotten excited about what most consider stars or because I know his money is long. I like who I like & date who I want, period!

May we talk about the “Thirst” for a minute? In this new age of social media do you feel men are doing too much to get your attention and could you give advice on how you prefer to be approached by a man who is interested in you?

Of course we can. I have to laugh because thirst is at a all time high right now. For men & women. What people don’t realize when approaching someone that you feel like might be a little outta your league they’re still equal to you as a person. Beauty on the outside doesn’t define the amount of thirst that you should exude. I like men that are themselves with a personality with a little ruff around the edges. I’m very approachable that doesn’t mean that your going to walk away a winner. *giggle*

You were doing a very entertaining radio show for awhile The Candy Shop with fellow model VANESSA VEASLEY what is the current status of that?

Yes, we were and it was a lot of fun. We have plans on bringing the show back. We both have been working on a lot of projects and as soon as the smoke clears we want to get it back rolling.

You have a lot of twitter followers (over 14k) does it ever get to the point it is too much to deal with all the messages that are coming into you and how do you deal with those who constantly bring negativity to your timeline?

I do and I love it. I think it is a great way for me to keep an interaction with the people that are interested in me and my work or just everyday life. I answer who and what I want so I don’t feel any pressure. Believe it or not I don’t get a lot of negativity. When I do depending on my mood I’ll either ignore it or entertain it. They talked about Jesus so I’m not gonna cry if they talk about me.

You have been a target of WSHH before and other gossip blogs, do you feel that it is fair because you are a public figure or do you feel whatever the situation is you should be entitled to more privacy and not have a video or picture spread out for the world to see?

If you would have asked me this question at the start of my career I would have said “it’s not fair & I want my privacy” but at this stage in my life I understand that no matter what I do, who I date, what fights I have in the streets someone is going to see it whether it ends up on a site or just being the talk of the neighborhood.

I’m interesting to people because of the work I’ve done and the people I hang out with. The more they think They know about you the better. It’s like my life is a reality show without being televised. I’m comfortable with it. But, I do try my beat to keep my personal life personal. Family, who I’m dating, etc. Those are things that I have never threw out there.

In the rap world many times women are treated as object, was there ever a time you felt disrespected enough to walk away from a job?

Never! I’m from South Central Los Angeles & I know that I carry myself in a professional manner when working. I don’t play that attitude also is seen a mile away. So I’ve never had to walk away from any job! I’ve always been given and showed the upmost respect because that’s what my presence demands.

10- As we get closer to summer what can we look forward to seeing from you for the rest of the year?

I have a spread in Smooth mag. That is on stands now. Hopefully you’ll see me in a couple more publications. Of course the radio show with Vanessa Veasley. Anything else you can keep up with on twitter @iheartbrooke because in this industry you never know what tomorrow brings.

Did you always have aspirations to do modeling or was it something that once the opportunity came up you decided to try?

Modeling was never an aspiration for me but once I saw the opportunity I did decide to see how it would work out for me.

How did you get your start in modeling?

Actually I kind of just feel into it. I would go out w/friends and take pics w/sites like Indmix, AlltheParties, etc. and photographers that liked my look started reaching out to me to do shoots, then I started getting offers to host parties, do videos, etc. seemingly the offers have continued to come about although I did stop modeling for a long period of time.

Did you play any sports when you were younger and are you into sports now?

Yea I played softball when I was a whole lot younger and I loved playing volleyball a few years. I know everyone doesn’t consider this a sport but DANCING has always been my thing. I was always on Dance Team throughout my school years.

I have heard stories about women taking your pics and pretending it is them. How does that make you feel? Flattered? Annoyed?

I see the whole FAKE PROFILES & STEALING OF PICS as both Flattering & Annoying. When I first began seeing them on myspace a while back, I really was flattered that anyone would even want to take my pics but as I started seeing more of these pgs being made on various social websites then it began to aggravate me.

The reason it bothers me is because a lot of the females that do this have nasty attitudes, talk about themselves as if they are FREAKS, & the list goes on and on. Due to the fact my name isn’t big when ppl that have never heard of me see my pics and see the way these girls talk over the net it gives the image that I’M THAT WAY…little do they know they aren’t even talking to me. Now, if it isn’t bad enough that they make my image look bad what bothers me most is when they steal pics of me & family members like my little sister then post them on these fake pages claiming it’s their sister. Its 1 thing to take my pics but when it comes to them having pics of my family that’s way overboard.

Do you feel that a social media tool like twitter gives you an opportunity to show people that you are more than woman with nice booty?

YES, YES, & YES…Actually had no plans of getting on twitter but ironically enough I was made aware of someone w/a fake page using my pics & trying to do fraud business deals w/artist so I made a page sometime last year. I didn’t understand and hated TWITTER at first but now out of the few social networks that I’ve been on I LOVE IT THE MOST.

I say whatever I want & feel…I CAN BE MYSELF!!! Yes ppl see the modeling pics but I talk about serious stuff going on, clown around, & get to talk to ppl that support me or just have serious questions for me. No most of the ppl that follow me do not know me personally but I know by the tweets I post they can pick up a lot about my personality & that I’m not just another girl that takes pics.

What is something interesting about yourself that no one would be able to guess?

That there are 2 completely different sides to me: the outgoing, silly, people-person side then there is my 2nd side shy, moody, & antisocial.

Any stalker or overzealous fans ever cause you to be legitimately concerned about your safety?

Um…nah but a few that has reminded me that you have to be very cautious at all times. I had a fan that would get jealous whenever he would see or find any pics of me w/guys on the internet. He would take the pics & cut their faces out & replace it w/his face then post them on my social pages.

I’ve had 1 of my fakes msg me several times thru different facebook pgs telling me she saw me here and there, would describe what I would have on those days and say things like she was in love w/me and would find a way to get near me one day. That’s just a couple of the things that I’ve had happen but I can tell yall more stories another time.

When people recognize you from your photoshoots how does that make you feel?

Like my work was acknowledged and left some type of memory within their heads. They have several girls that do photoshoots and no one ever notices their work nor do ppl have a interest in knowing or even meeting them if they see them out and about. The fact that ppl see little ole me out and know me by my name and actually want to take the time to speak or take a picture is a honor for me and I’m thankful for it any and every time it happens.

What should we expect from you in 2011?

Well first things first…TO COME BACK TO THE MODELING SCENE, what a lot of ppl don’t know is that I started backing away from everything in late 09’ and then I put a complete stop to everything in 10’ because I was dealing w/my father’s passing and a lot of other issues but because of so many people still expressing interest in doing work w/me and all the ppl that have continued to show me support, I feel I owe it to all of them for really staying down for me and bringing a smile back to my face as well as the motivation I needed

What type of sports are you into?

I’m a fan of Basketball, Football, and Boxing. I would have to say. that I love to shoot a couple of hoops here and there on the court as well.

How did you get your start in modeling?

Friends, family, and complete strangers actually got me to pursue modeling. I’m such a girly girl so I love to get all dolled up, stand in front of a camera and capture a beautiful photo.

Beyond modeling what other things are you interesting in?

I’m actually interested in doing some acting.

Do you believe that social media has watered down the modeling industry or helped it?

I would say that it has helped. You have so many models who have been discovered over the internet. I come from a small area where there aren’t many opportunities, but with the help of meeting people off the internet it has been a blessing.

When people recognize you from your photoshoots how does that make you feel?

It brings a Huge kool aid smile to my face and makes me feel all warm inside. It’s a really good feeling I must say.

You are a sports girl, have you always been into sports?

Don’t let the heels and makeup fool you. I use to be a tomboy. You couldn’t pay me to wear a dress or show my legs. I played basketball for 7 years at school JV and Varsity level, intramural and AAU and Volleyball for 4. I also tried my luck at Soccer and Track.

How do you feel about the term “urban model”?

HATE IT!  Would much rather not be called a model at all. “Urban” models are a joke, much respect to the runway and commercial print models.  This “Urban” world allows the title “model” to be used so freely. You don’t even have to be cute to be considered a model ya know. I will get off this subject now.

What are some of the publications and sites you have been on?

Straight Stuntin Mag, Don Diva, Zaria, Urban Ink…uh! And more sites than I can recall. Dynasty Series…They’re all on Google.

Beyond being a model you live a regular life how do you blend to the two?

My regular life pays my bills. I completely try not to blend the two but it’s hard. Living two lives and for the people who have known me foreverrrr…way before the “Mandii B” title seem to just know me as Mandii now, think I’m “Hollywood” and have grown away from the hood. Which is not it at all,  Mandii B is most def my alter ego. She’s my Sasha Fierce.

You have a lot of twitter followers, if a man or woman for that matter wants you to get to follow them what can they do?

Oddly just catch my attention, I hate the ones that beg for a follow. It’s never that serious, I’m friendly though,  I reply.

You are working with a lot of “Assets” but for you what do you consider your best feature?

Physically I don’t get what all the hype is about my rear end. But I guess my “ASSet” would be my best asset. Now physically if a man  gets to know me, my personality pretty much rocks!! I’m funny…so I’ve heard and quite the brainiac…Math genius!

What are plans going into 2011?

I’m going back to school in May to achieve my Business Degree in Sports Management and Finance. Finance just because if all else fails…numbers don’t lie. But I would still want to keep it in the Sports industry.

Everyone has a favorite quote about life what is your and what advice would you give to young ladies trying to achieve what you have?

“Do me wrong once shame on you. Do me wrong twice shame on me.”

I believe it is important to learn by your mistakes and grow from them. Also to not allow people to get over on you or take advantage of you in any way.

What was your first reaction when you found out your were the BSO Model of the Year?

Really excited. I knew that this would be a great opportunity for me to gain some excellent exposure and be introduced to a new fan base (which is already similar to mine).

Are you a big sports fan?

I love sports. I am an ex athlete so It’s easy for me to understand and follow the games as well as the players.

What was the motivation behind the sports theme shoot?

Of course with this being BSO I wanted to be able to do a shoot in honor of athleticism. I chose to pay tribute to three women I admire greatly. Layla Ali (boxing), Serena Williams (tennis), and Allyson Felix (track). Each one of these women are champions at their craft and have set stellar examples for young ladies looking to get into sports. I have mentored young female athletes and have come across a common concern for identity, more or less being able to stay “girly” (female athletes tend to have a stereotyped stigma of masculinity). Baring this concern in mind, I admire and appreciate the way these women can kick but at their sport without compromising, but rather celebrating and magnifying their femininity.

Beyond the modeling, tell us a little more about Sabrina the person? Likes, dislikes, hobbies?

As of lately I find myself spending a lot of time having fun with my girlfriends and people I consider family. I think at this point in my life the most important thing is to embrace the moment and live life to the fullest. I look at things this way; I’m a great person, no children, no significant other, and a whole world in front of me. Now is the time to get out there and really live. I love having thought provoking conversation over wine or tea with my girls (depending on the time of day of course). I adore the people I have allowed in my life this year, they truly push me to be a better person and a more driven professional. Life in New York is fast and trust me I am a quality contender in the race.

You are a very beautiful young lady, if a guy was to approach you, what is the best way to get your attention?

I’ll put it to you like this. I know what it is like when a man REALLY wants to get to know what a woman is about. I have seen it time and time again (ironically a lot of my friends are either married, engaged, or completely booed up). I also know when guys are playing games and trying to use a woman, trust and believe me from millionaire to minion men are no different. I have enough experience and a million stories. Be sincere, be yourself, and be open. If I like ya, great. That’s really it.

In the age of social media every female who a camera phone thinks she is a model, in your mind what separates real models from wannabes?

I think most young ladies looking into getting into the modeling industry don’t do their research. I see a lot of poor imitations of past successes but what most don’t do is show us who they are. What do you bring to the game? What sets you apart? Modeling is a JOB. Men take pleasure in looking at models, entertainers take pleasure in them being around so on and so forth. To them and to many we are viewed as pleasure, eye candy, T and A. This is a business. As a professional, whenever you get business confused with pleasure I think you are taken a lot less seriously.

What advice would you give young ladies who aspire to be models?

DO YOUR RESEARCH! Know your assets and accentuate them. Know your flaws and hide them. Be realistic with yourself, if you need to tighten up hit the gym. If you are happy being a lil more to love well hey there is a whole plus industry that would/may love you. Know your audience, as well as the message you convey in your images. You probably won’t book Vogue by submitting booty shots, be appropriate and prepared and you will book the jobs you want. Love what you do for what it is. At the end of the day, you live and die by the decisions you make every day of your life. Go with your intuition and you will never go wrong. Your gut never lies.

What can we look forward from you in 2011?

I am super excited for the new year! I have a MTV.com feature showing 1st quarter (featuring my Tattoo story) and I am going to be featured in Black Mens Magazine 40 on 40 issue. I am always submitting myself for bookings/going to castings (acting/hosting as well as modeling), even considering shopping myself around for representation again come the second or third week of Jan (best time to hit the agencies ladies). Sky is truly the limit for me and I believe the creator is leading me down a path to show me exactly how limitless the sky really is. I just started a blog www.modelbehaviorbysabrina.tumblr.com. It’s basically a place for me to express my opinions, work out new ideas, and release my day to day thoughts and encounters as a model in NYC. My non profit org is in developmental stages as well which is sincerely my dream come true. After I receive my life coaching certification I will be able to officially mentor young girls and make the difference in their lives I have always dreamed of doing. Watch out Oprah

You know I can’t lie to you guys, it isn’t in my nature.

The only reason I mentioned Miles Austin was so I could post the pictures, I am pretty sure he doesn’t care, he has already seen the goods (hopefully).

In 2007 Kimmy did a Playboy spread and Hef kept some of the outtakes that he conveniently decided to release.

Kimmy is not too happy about it, but if you recall back then she was rolling around on tape with Ray J, so she wasn’t in a position to demand full control of the pics.

What does this mean for the Cowboys?

Nothing really, not like Austin is dating Natalie Nunn or anything, so I wouldn’t be overly concerned about it Cowboys fans.

An alluring author and advocate with an angelic spirit doesn’t begin to capture the essence of this ambitious young woman, Jenna Marie Christian.

She was born Jennifer Marie Christian on Chicago’s Westside to the legendary blues singer little Johnny Christian and the beautiful Mary Christian-Jones. Jenna realized at an early age through witnessing the impact of her fathers music on others and her mothers hard work as an educator and dedicated servant for the Lord that she wanted to make a difference in the lives of others in every way that she could. Jenna published her first book (You Broke My Heart, Now Go to Hell) in 2008 to use her personal story as a way to spread the message of “allow every adversity to make you better and not bitter” to every young woman across America and beyond.

Jenna is known for her charismatic persona, incredible sense of humor, radiant smile and charm. She is also notably recognized for being driven by her passion to help others. Her desire to improve her community is shown through her countless volunteer efforts. Jenna Marie can be found tirelessly working everywhere she is needed from preschools, shelters, crisis hotlines, churches, to food drives. Jenna recently completed training to become a certified domestic abuse advocate in Illinois as well as joined the team Red Pump Project Chicago (www.theredpumpproject.com) in their mission to promote HIV/AIDS awareness.
