Brett Favre is a Dirty Old Man…Wait I Mean That Was a Dirty Block

I will be very interested in seeing how the NFL handles this one. I don’t think Brett Favre is a dirty player, nothing in his 100 years of playing in the NFL suggest that, but this was a dirty and illegal crackback block that could have ended Houston Texans DB Eugene Wilson season.
In classic Brett Favre fashion, even though he almost tore Eugene Wilson’s knee to shreds it was Favre who got up like he was hurt. Of course the sickening “bath water slurping” by Jon Gruden acted as if Favre hadn’t almost ended someone season, but decided to concentrate on why Favre would put himself in danger.
At least the referees were not blinding by “God” Favre and called a penalty on him. “Dictator” Goodell loves to hand out punishment and fines so this is a perfect example to show the league there is no bias. If Ocho Cinco can get fined $5000 for an orange chinstrap, Brett should at least be fined $15,000 for that hit in my opinion.
A little off topic, but Brett is going around telling people he has a cracked rib. As someone who had a cracked rib as a teenager I am comfortable saying if a 40 year man truly had a cracked rib he wouldn’t be playing three quarters of football.
We always want to call high profile wide receivers “divas”, but it is pretty obvious the #1 diva in the league wears a #4 jersey that fits like it was bought at Target.

Well that was just terrible! I only watched a few drives. Clearly I missed this one. There should be a stiff penalty since no one is able to put a hand on the QB. Did you see that "roughing the passer" penalty? The defender was tackling Favre while the ball was still in his hand!!!

what a competitor. 39 years old and still working hard. He in fact took out two Texans in pursuit. Tough as nails.

if someone hit a QB like that they would be done for the year via league suspension. Did anyone see the "roughing the passer" penalty? the No Fun League might as well put the QB's in red jerseys and Flags>

As far as I'm concerened, the block was above the knee, more in the upper thigh area, I thought it could have gone either way I suppose, but in the heat of the battle you have to be aware of where everyone is around you, Wilson was caught sleeping. Actually good to see Farvre throw kis body in support of his team. Can you imagine what everyone would be saying if he would have let Wilson run by and make the Play without trying to make the supporting block?? Nice Play Brett, Maybe hit a little higher next time.

As John Madden would say: "That's just Favre being Favre. He's a competitor, he's just out there having fun." Madden must be kicking himself for believing Methuselah, err Favre really retired this time.

How would a normal QB make a crackback block? I think over 90% of NFL starting quarterbacks would make a dirty cut block or not make the block at all on that play…
that figure is purely subjective but i think the fault lies in the playcalling, not in the execution. In a league where Qb's are treated as fragile glass-like creatures, it is uncommon for a starting Qb to be asked to block a safety. Brett favre has made dirty plays like this for 25+ yrs, but he still puts his body on the line (even at 47 yrs old). When was the last time you saw Manning or Brady try to throw a block? Imagine Manning or Brady trying to throw a block at 47 years old… Dirty player… maybe. Dirty play…. definitely. But i do not feel he is a dirty old man because of this type of blocking and for a guy who is new to the team, it shows his teammates that he is willing to put his body on the line. He is like the Rodney King of football…
