Former NBA Player Popeye Jones Gets Rodney King Treatment From Police
Popeye Jones was a role player for several NBA teams in the 90’s most notably the Dallas Mavericks who he is now working as an assistant coach for. According to police Jones was pulled over and appeared to be drunk, but decline to take a breathalyzer test. According to TV station MyFox is Dallas this is what happened next.
“When the officers went to place the handcuffs on Mr. Jones he did resist by moving his hand forward instead of behind his back. They were forced to take him to the ground to get better control of him and he did sustain some injuries to his face,” Wakefield said.
Jonathan Wakefield is the spokesman for the police department and I found the last part of his statement very interesting.
“He did sustain some injuries to his face.”
I want you to look at this picture:
I would say that is a little more than “some injuries” to his face. That is a straight up “ass whupping” by the police on Popeye Jones.
Unfortunately there is no video of the incident, so we won’t truly know if there was just caused for the beat down but I honestly doubt that they needed to do this much damage to him.
According to Mr. Wakefileld, Jones moved his hand and that was the reason to basically beat him up. Unless Popeye Jones is kin to Bruce Lee I think they went over the top.
We have all seen “Cops” you know there was probably 14 cops there and no need for all of them to be taking shots to “restrain” Jones who had no weapon besides a “moving hand”.
Maybe next time Jones should ride with Delonte West so he has a better chance of protecting himself from “Texas Justice”.

I think those lumps and scrapes give his face character. He should not have been driving drunk. Police beating down some drunk douche < vehicular homicide because of drunken douche

Looks like something the Oklahoma Highway Patrol would do. Minorities do not drive through OK. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol all lie for each other and their administration supports brutality and worse.
