When Michael Vick was with the Atlanta Falcons as a fan there was one thing that was always in the back of your mind.
“If he ever becomes an above average passer from the pocket he would be virtually unstoppable.”
Alas Vick at that time was much more interested in being a “celebrity” than being a complete quarterback and it showed on the field. While spectacular at times he never was consistent enough to be considered an upper echelon quarterback.
He was a runner, playing quarterback. He was such a gifted athlete that he was able to still win games, but you never thought he could win Super Bowls.
You don’t have to be reminded what happened after that.
After losing three years of his NFL life to being in prison on dog fighting charges he came back last year as a part time player for the Philadelphia Eagles.
He didn’t look particular good or comfortable just being a “wildcat” quarterback and the offseason came and went with no teams having serious interest in trading for his services.
He was also the clear cut #2 to Kevin Kolb to start the season and you had to wonder if Vick would ever get a chance to shine in the spotlight again.
Fate intervene, an early season injury to Kolb gave Vick the opportunity he needed.
He has been brilliant in the games he has started and his position himself for a huge payday at the end of the season. His transformation to an accurate and deadly pocket and on the run passer his been remarkable.
He is leaps and bounds a better quarterback than he was when he was in Atlanta.
He has become a modern day Steve Young, with more speed and a bigger arm. Just think about that for a minute. If he can keep it up and we just have a small sample so far, the Eagles have to be considered in the Super Bowl mix.
If Michael Vick or someone from Michael Vick’s inner circle reads this, I implore them to remember what got him in trouble in the first place.
A lot of people are jumping on the bandwagon and a lot of these people have their hands out or are looking to take advantage of the Vick’s resurgence.
Keep your circle tight, because it would tragic for him to have anything derail this wonderful comeback story.
