It’s not a protest if everyone is comfortable with the act of protesting, and these Patriots fans melted like snow flakes after seeing their beloved team bend the knee to recognize inequality.
In fact, these group of Patriots became so angry at their team for certain Patriots players kneeling; they organized a community event where hundreds of angry fans gathered to sit around a fire, chant patriotic slogans, and burn Patriot jerseys like effigies as cheers rose from the crowd.
As I watched this unfold, a certain type of event usually held in the south that is similar in nature immediately came to mind, but I don’t want to speculate.
This type of behavior brings to light the fact that throughout American history, Americans have always viewed protesting racial injustice as protesting America. Protests have always been ugly. They are meant to be that way. Sometimes shock is the only way to bring about change, and Anthem protests may be the catalyst that finally gets the right people to listen.
