Let me be honest and say I didn’t even know the Super Bowl logo was a big deal, but I guess since this one is being advertised as the first cold weather Super Bowl that it supercedes the others.
The NFL released the logo Tuesday for the 2014 Super Bowl which is usually held in a warm weather city or a dome. This is the first time in history that the Super Bowl will be held in cold weather, which might be an advantage for the teams who play in cold weather throughout the season.
“I think that’s great,” NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said Tuesday. “A little snow would be great for us. But whatever comes our way, we’re going to be prepared for it.”
“We’re coming and playing in the winter, and I think that would be great,” he said. “Some of our most memorable games were played in unusual weather circumstances. Winter and cold are part of football, and snow is also.”
The game will be held at Metlife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ which has an average temperature of 24 to 40 degrees in February. The logo features the George Washington Bridge over the Hudson River with NY and NJ on the left and right side, respectively. Looks a little corny to me but, this game isn’t about logos. Hopefully two good teams will be competing in the big game of 2014.
“I expect our ticket prices will probably be the most expensive ticket prices of any Super Bowl that’s been held,” Al Kelly, the former American Express president hired in April as chief executive officer of the host committee said. “But I think that’s a decision that sits with the NFL, and it’s a decision that hasn’t been made yet.”
I’m placing my bet on the Bears now…if we can get rid of Jay Cutler, get an offensive line, find a new coaching staff, front office and defense by that time. Too much to ask for? Yea, I thought so.
