WWE NXT put on a great card last night in Brooklyn as the warm up to tonight’s SummerSlam event and the highlight of the night was Sasha Banks’ title defense against Baylee.
Banks has been the Boss of NXT for quite some time now but it’s only been of late that the entire WWE universe has been able to see Sasha in action. She debuted on the main roster as part of the Diva’s revolution angle, which see her paired with Tamina and Naomi to form the group B.A.D. (Beautiful And Dangerous). She’s put on some quality matches but last night’s NXT Diva’s title match showed exactly why Sasha Banks is a stand alone talent.
I could go on for a long time on why Banks is the best female WWE performer but I’ve decided to limit the list to 5 reasons. Feel free to listen to me pine over Sasha banks on my weekly podcast.
1. Performing is in Her Blood
Even though the WWE and NXT always tries to push Charlotte as the Diva that comes from an entertainment bloodline, Sasha can also boast the same. She is the cousin of rapper/actor Snoop Dogg. It’d be cool to see Snoop freestyle over Sasha’s entrance when she walks out at WM next year.
2. Her Move Set is Second to None
Sasha’s “Bank Statement” finisher is an amazing move but her in-ring repertoire goes much further than that.
3. Her “Boss” Gimmick Makes Her An Easy Heel
The WWE is always flipping back-and-forth with their heel/baby-face roles in the women’s division but Sasha’s Boss moniker makes her as natural of a fit as a hell as Kevin Owens is on the men’s side. She even mixes the Boss angle into her in-ring storytelling and performances.
4. She’s Not Scared of The Big Stage
Sasha has been involved in some of the biggest NXT matches-to-date and she rocked her WWE RAW debut. She’s instantly become the face/voice of her faction, bumping out Total Divas star Naomi. What you may not know is that Banks was a part of Wrestle Mania 30 this past year. Banks was one of three NXT Divas that helped HHH with his entrance and removed his Game of Thrones inspired gear. I’m sure she’ll have a much more prominent role at WM 31.
5. She’s a Proven Champion
Banks was only the 3rd NXT women’s champion ever but that wasn’t her first time holding gold. Banks (Mercedes KV) was the Chaotic Wrestling women’s champion for a year before joining the WWE. Banks is one of those rare performers that elevates to another level when they become champion and it’ll be hard to keep the WWE Divas belt away from her for very long.
At only 23 years of age, Banks has shown that she is one of the elite performers in the entire WWE. It’s now up to Stephanie McMahon and HHH to utilize her talents correctly and usher in a new era of female wrestling stars, sorry Bella Twins.
