Deborah Davies the Al Jazeera reporter who did much of the legwork behind the documentary The Dark Side: Secrets of the Sports Dopers is standing by her report alleging that Human Growth Hormone was repeatedly shipped to Ashley Manning, the wife of Peyton Manning.
In an interview on NBC’s Today, she stresses that the Al Jazeera report never accuses Peyton Manning of administering or receiving the performance-enhancing drug himself, only his wife Ashley Manning. She also clarifies that the main source for this allegation, Charlie Sly, wasn’t an intern but someone who was pursuing his doctorate in Pharmacy and making his rounds at clinics as a part of his education.
Manning’s lawyer Ari Fleischer has denounced the interview telling TMZ Sports he believes Davies was ‘backtracking’ and ‘retreating’ from the reports initial claims.
The full documentary is about athletes around the world who are either suspected of or accused of doping in one form or another. You can watch the whole thing here. Charlie Sly’s interview shows up around the 40:30 mark.
