According to Bleacher Report NFL insider Jason Cole, newly re-signed 49ers guard Alex Boone made a couple of offers himself to the team before he eventually signed his 2-year $6 million contract, the more interesting of the two being a 1-year $1 deal with the remaining figures (standard contract) going to charity. Yes, he was actually going to play for $1.
Kind of a weird for both sides but I can see Boone’s good intentions. It would have been an incredible P/R opportunity. But if you think about it, things like this would be more suited for one of the lower rung teams, not a legitimate championship contender. The 49ers wanted Boone locked up and secure.
