Andy Enfield the Shade Master…
USC’s new head coach, Andy Enfield has already thrown shade at cross-town rival UCLA once when he said “If you want to play slow go to UCLA,” and now he’s doing it again.
For their December issue, The Men’s Journal did a wonderful piece on Enfield and when asked about UCLA and their head coach Steve Alford, he flat out said he wasn’t worried about them.
“I don’t worry about them. I’ve made it to one Sweet Sixteen in two years, and he’s made it to one Sweet Sixteen in 18 years.”
Alford wasn’t Enfield’s only shade victim. When asked about former USC coach Tim Floyd and his accusations that he tampered with his recruitment of LA native Isaac Hamilton, who originally commited to Floyd’s UTEP before backing out to play for the Trojans, Enfield had this to say:
“Tim Floyd shows up every day at work and realizes he lives in El Paso, Texas,” said Enfield. “And he’s pissed off that he didn’t get the USC job two months ago. I told him, ‘Tim, if I could have all this power to somehow convince a family to do this, why the heck didn’t the kid come last spring, when I first got the job?'”
That’s cold.
I have to give Enfield credit, he seems like a cool, likeable guy whose players love his style of coaching and play. I like his confidence and swag, but this is his first time as a head coach of a major program. Maybe he should humble himself just a little bit…At least until he’s done more than make one Sweet 16 himself.
