Anquan Boldin was given an ultimatum by the Baltimore Ravens to take a pay cut, or he’d be cut. The USA Today is reporting that Boldin has rejected the Ravens request to take a pay cut, and he is prepared to play somewhere else.
Boldin has rejected a Ravens proposal to reduce his salary, and is preparing to become an unrestricted free agent if released, according to a person person with knowledge of the negotiations.
The person spoke to USA TODAY Sports on the condition of anonymity because talks are ongoing.
The 32-year-old Boldin is a main reason for Joe Flacco being an extremely rich man today. Boldin’s cap number for 2013 is $7.531 million, and the Ravens needed Boldin to take a pay cut in order to try to resign linebacker Darnell Ellerbe.
The source who is speaking on anonymity, says that once Boldin has made up his mind on something, it’s a done deal. He also hinted at the fact that even though Boldin suggested shortly after the Super Bowl that he’d retire if the Ravens cut him, he thinks Boldin will play somewhere else.
“Once he’s decided, you might as well try to move the Rock of Gibraltar,” the person told USA TODAY Sports of Boldin.
“I think he was trying to express loyalty to them,” the person said of Boldin. “I know that he’s hoping to stay with them, but he’s willing to go someplace else.”
The person said that the Ravens’ proposal to the 10-year pro did not include an exten-sion.
