Antonio Margarito and his camp were hopefully optimistic that his suspension of his California boxing license would be lifted Wednesday. By Wednesday evening that optimism had be shot down. The LAtimes.com reports that the California Athletic Commission decided not to re-issue his boxing license.
In a 5 to 1 vote, Margarito was denied the license. A state attorney also blasted Margarito for “lying” about his knowledge of the loaded hand wraps that were confiscated before his technical knockout loss to Mosley. (ouch)
With his pending fight against Manny Pacquiao rumored to be held at Cowboys stadium November 13th this is not a major setback, more like a bump in the road. It was perceived by Margarito’s camp that the re-issue of the license in California would make it easier to receive a license in Texas. If the license isn’t issued in Texas, a contingency plan of having the fight in Abu Dabhi.
Although I do think Margarito had knowledge of the wraps and that wasn’t the first time he used them(read: Miguel Cotto), I need Texas to issue the stinkin’ license. I am not going to Abu Dhabi for a fight. I’m shallow, sue me.
