A Black Lives Matters activist who went “viral” in 2017, for taking a confederate flag from a protester, while being recorded by the news, was fatally shot in New Orleans.
Muhiyidin Moye who also went by Muhiyidin d’Baha was riding his bike around 1 AM in New Orleans when he was shot in the leg, HuffPost reports. Camille Weaver, the niece of Moye, says that he had to ride 5 blocks to find medical help.
New Orleans Police say Muhiyidin was then transported to the hospital but died due to the gunshot wound. They also stated that “The incident is the subject of an active and ongoing investigation.” The shooter remains unknown at this time.
Muhiyidin was known for being a leader of the Black Lives Matter movement in Charleston, South Carolina. He made headlines for running through a live news broadcast. The camera caught Moye jumping through a police tape barrier and trying to take a confederate flag away from a protester. He was charged with disorderly conduct, but some saw him as a hero for the movement.
