Bob Arum Wants A Trump vs Sanders Fight; Would You Watch?

TrumpAll the Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor fight talk will be put on hold if Bob Arum can set up another multi-million dollar fight.

I’m sure it was just a joke but this would be something I’m convinced people who pay to see. During Wednesday night show of Jimmy Kimmel Live, Donald Trump made an appearance and was asked if he would consider a boxing match against Bernie Sanders. Trump replied in the fashion we all expected him too.

“We would have such high rating and I think I should take the money and give it to some worthy charity.”

According to, it didn’t take long for Bob Arum to jump on board for the fight.

“It’s the debate of the century between two of the pound for pound politicians in the country — Mr. Trump, the Republican Party’s presumptive nominee and Senator Sanders, the Democratic candidate. We have two contenders a mano over the most important issues facing the United States. And I am ready to promote it.”

It is a fight would pay to watch. Arum feels that $20 million could easily be made and giving to the charity or charities of choice.

Bob Arum Confirms Pacquiao-Bradley PPV Numbers Aren’t Good

I thought it was a solid fight, and entertaining card altogether, but I’m sure a card with Tim Bradley as a headline will ever do serious pay per view numbers.

Bob Arum is a boxing realist — so he had no problem revealing that the numbers for Pacquiao vs. Bradley 3 were underwhelming to say the least.

If Manny Pacquiao truly is retiring — he’s walking away at the right time.

The finale in a controversial trilogy, did no better than Mayweather’s win over Andre Berto — which had 550,000 buys. Add in the comments on gay marriage, and it was probably Manny’s last $20 million plus purse anyway — short of a rematch with Floyd.

Bob Arum On Why He Released Mikey Garcia (Audio)

On Thursday, the promotional relationship between former WBO super featherweight champion Mikey Garcia and Bob Arum came to a close. After a two year court battle, Garcia is back on the market as a free agent.

In an exclusive interview with boxing podcast The Morning Punch-In Show with RB & Jae, Top Rank Chief Bob Arum confirmed that Garcia had been released from the promotional company and was free to pursue other opportunities.

“Other promoters made runs at him. And that screwed him up. and yeah he we didn’t offer him the Crawford fight because he wanted more money than Crawford and Crawford is the champion. That means something. So we’ve given Mikey his release now and he’s free to do what he wants.”

Garcia made his last appearance in the ring in January 2014 against Juan Carlos Burgos. Going the distance, Garcia emerged the victor by unanimous decision.

Terence Crawford Quiets Hank Lundy With Impressive 5th Round TKO (Video)

if Terence Crawford does have any flaws as a boxer — Hank Lundy wasn’t the man to expose or test the reigning junior welterweight champion.

After losing his cool during the final stare down — the undefeated champion got the last laugh — literally, punishing “Hammerin'” Hank Lundy into an impressive 5th round TKO.

“Lundy came out with a good rhythm and came out strong, so it took me a little time to get my rhythm down before I could catch him and get rid of him,” Crawford said.

“He and I had gone back and forth on Twitter for like a year,” Crawford said. “I just wanted to shut him up for good.”

Crawford took exception with a lot of the stuff Lundy was saying — even telling me during an interview earlier in the week — that he “really didn’t like” Lundy at all.

After taking the first round to figure the unorthodox Lundy — Crawford returned for round two with a southpaw stance — distance and a stifling jab that erased any shot Hank had at the upset.

Lundy started the fifth round out aggressive, and then the walls crashed in after a double jab and a crushing left that sent Hank staggering. Crawford closed in a fashion that only Broadway could appreciate — battering Lundy until the referee stepped in — before standing over the battered opponent who was vanquished 2 minutes and 9 seconds into the round.

“He caught me with a good shot, hit me on the top of the head and knocked my equilibrium off,” Lundy said afterward. “I couldn’t recover.”

Crawford landed 49 of 84 power shots according to CompuBox — while landing 40 of 163 jabs.

This was Bud’s second defense of the junior welterweight world title, after he beat Dierry Jean in October.

“I told everyone I got power in both hands, and with the boxing ability that I have, it’s going to take me a long way in this game,” Crawford said.

Now 28-0 with 20 KOs — Crawford will continue to rise up the pound-for-pound list — while trying to land quality opponents or the elite fighters in his division.

“I never duck anyone and I’ll fight anybody,” Crawford said. “My manager will make the fights happen, and I will train and fight.”

Top Rank honcho Bob Arum, told that Crawford would next fight in June or July, probably at the Forum in Inglewood, California.

Bob Arum Challenges Donald Trump to Boxing Match at MSG (Video)

Bob Arum is one of the best boxing promoters ever but at times he does come off as short-sided when talking about his clients.

In the video above you can hear Arum blast Donald Trump for his presidential campaign but sympathise with Pacquiao’s anti-gay marriage remarks. He also suggest that he and Trump go a few rounds in MSG.

Sounds like a Bellator card to me.

De La Hoya to Mayweather: Let’s Work Together (Video)

Once again we see that Oscar De La Hoya can’t be in front of a camera without mentioning Floyd Mayweather.

This time De La Hoya wants to bury the hatchet and extend a peace offering to Floyd.

“You know what, I’m gonna give it to you. I’m gonna give you an exclusive right now. Floyd, let’s bury the hatchet. I’m shaking, I’m getting a little teary eyed. Floyd, let’s bury the hatchet. We don’t have to be friends. We don’t have to be best of friends, but lets bury the hatchet for the sake of the sport,” said De La Hoya.

“Keep doing what you’re doing, I applaud you. I’m doing what I’m doing. Let’s come together. Maybe down the road we can work together. Imagine that. Mayweather Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions. We’ll bring in the Bobfather. Maybe we’ll bring Don King out of retirement. Maybe we’ll do a Super Bowl of boxing. Floyd, let’s bury the hatchet, sincerely.”

Everything sounds good when Oscar says it but the fact remains that Mayweather is with Haymon & Schaefer; I doubt they are itching to work with De La Hoya & Arum.

Teddy Atlas Would Like to See Bradley Fight Mayweather in 2016

Bradley Mayweather

Timothy Bradley may be coming off of one of the best performances of his career, a TKO victory over Brandon Rios, but taking aim at the recently “retired” Floyd Mayweather seems like a stretch.

Bradley’s trainer, Teddy Atlas, named Mayweather as his choice for Bradley’s next opponent and he seems to think that the two of them can solve the puzzel that is Mayweather.

“Hey, maybe somebody named, I don’t know if everybody has forgot his name already – Mayweather – I don’t know if anyone remembers his name because he has been out of the limelight for a while. Maybe everyone forgot him. Maybe someone like Mayweather wants to come back for number 50 and wants to match intelligence with us. That would be interesting, if he came back to match wits with us. Give us a chance to come up with a game plan to give him a loss. I don’t know, again that is in the goods hands of Monica (Bradley’s wife) who has done a great job and in the hands of Bob Arum who I think has been the best promoter of the past 50 years to be quite honest. Give him his due,” said Atlas.

Mayweather hasn’t talked about coming back for fight #50 and it seems unlikely that Floyd would choose Bradley as his opponent if he returned. Bradley isn’t the biggest draw in the boxing world and it handicaps his ability to not only land a Mayweather fight but a few other ones as well.

It may be best for Bradley & Atlas to focus on a different title holder at 147 lbs, possibly Kell Brook, instead of shooting for the stars and requesting the Mayweather fight.

Freddie Roach & Pacquiao Desperate for Another Mayweather Fight

Pacquiao Roach

It seems as though the Pacquiao camp is trying to drum up public pressure for a potential “Fight of the Century” rematch.

Floyd Mayweather has long maintained that he would retire after his next fight against Andre Berto. Manny Pacquiao’s man, Bob Arum, has even said the same about Pacquiao after his next match against an undecided opponent.

But then there’s this recent video of Manny Pacquiao claiming that they are “still negotiating.. very much with Floyd Mayweather. We’re hoping for that”.

And now we have Freddie Roach, the trainer for Manny Pacquiao, speaking up about a potential rematch and why he believes it will happen.

All of this despite no word from Mayweather’s camp that he’s even considering continuing his career after his September match.

Bob Arum Calls Out Gennady Golovkin For Fighting ‘Bums’ (Video)

Bob Arum is the latest in a line of pundits, ripping Gennady Golovkin’s resume and pointing out that he’s never stopped a big named opponent.

In this video interview by Luis Sandoval of FightHype, Arum says that Golovkin — thanks to HBO, his impeccable promotion, has allowed him to fight a bunch of stumblebums.

Arum went on to say that as long as HBO is willing to pay Golovkin good money to fight these “stumblebums,” there’s little incentive for him to move up to a much deeper 168lb division where there are some big fights to be made.

“I think that his promotion team is doing a very, very good job and they’ve got the people at HBO mesmerized, and so they’re letting him fight stumblebum after stumblebum, so as long as he can do it and pick up money, I mean, what’s the incentive to fight guys at a higher weight…there’s so much more talent now in the 168-pound division…Golovkin should look at some of these 168-pound guys…there is where the big money fights can be made, but they’re dangerous,” stated Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum, who had a lot more to say about undefeated middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin. Check it out!

Arum suggests that GGG move up to 168lbs to face his fighter, Gilberto Ramirez — saying that Golovkin is no match for Ramirez and that they’d be willing to make the fight in ‘two minutes.’

Gilberto Ramirez hasn’t faced a fighter worth a salt either according to the boxing masses.

Bob Arum Wants Pacquiao to Fight in Dubai Against Amir Khan

Pacquiao’s earning power in the US against anyone besides Mayweather isn’t what it use to be. Hard from Top Rank to make a hefty profit because of that. That is why Manny has fought in China so often.

Now, Arum wants to send him over to Dubai with the IG Models.

“I just had a delegation in from Dubai trying to talk to me about a Manny Pacquiao fight some time early next year in Dubai,” Arum told the Telegraph. “That would be interesting.”

“One of the name they suggested as an opponent is Amir Khan,” Arum said. “That would be a possibility. We’ll have to see. I would think that Manny, if everything goes right with the surgery, would look to be back in early 2016, maybe in Dubai. I don’t want to rush him.

“Apparently there’s great interest from Dubai in doing big-time boxing there. With the Emirate airline making regular flights from the UK to Dubai, it’s a great place for British fans to watch a fight.”

I love the way Pacquiao has no say in this when he is supposed to the boss not Arum.
