As a reporter, you should never feel this personal about a player.
It clouds your judgment.
Furthermore, regardless of what you think of Kevin Durant’s moves off the court, he isn’t committing any crimes. He isn’t kicking little kids or anything. He is expressing his concerns to billionaires about where he wants to play a game.
I know Ryan is at that get off my lawn stage of life, but he needs to chill.
The Boston Globe’s Bob Ryan didn’t hold back in a fiery rant about Nets star Kevin Durant, who he called a “s–t head” on Tuesday.
“Screw him,” Ryan said in the latest episode of his podcast, adding that he’s happy the Celtics didn’t trade for Durant.
Before Durant’s sudden recommitment to the Nets last week, the Celtics reportedly engaged in trade talks about the two-time NBA champion.
“I don’t need him. I’m happy. I don’t want to win with him,” said the 76-year-old Ryan, who still writes semiregularly for The Globe. “I want to root for this group right here that we have seen assembled and grow. Now that we’ve added [Malcolm] Brogdon.. I love this team. I don’t want to win with that s–t head and I think he is one, frankly… I don’t want to win with this guy. Screw him. No.”
Last month, The Athletic reported that the reigning Eastern Conference champion Celtics took part in trade talks with the Nets about a possible deal for Durant that included a package centered around All-Star forward Jaylen Brown. A deal was never close to getting done.
This may be hard for Ryan to understand, but he isn’t on the court. You do it if you have opportunities to bring guys in like Durant, who are top 5 in the game.
