Might it be the end of the road for Carlos Beltran? The Yankees outfielder may be contemplating that option.
One of the most exciting free agencies in baseball was produced by Carlos Beltran. After starting his career with the Royals, he was traded to the Astros in 2004 and the playoffs for the Astros is what made Beltran a hot ticket. As a free agent, he signed with the Mets.
In his almost 20-year career, Beltran has bounced around a few ball clubs and finds himself in pinstripes, playing for the Yankees. Many Yankee fans wanted him from the get. But Beltran, who has been battling injuries, may be thinking that it’s time to stamp his ticket out of the league. This is per the New York Post:
Beltran, meanwhile, hasn’t decided how long he will continue playing. With just one year left on his contract, the 38-year-old outfielder said he likely will either retire following next season or play one more year, depending on how he performs in 2016 and how his body feels.
“I don’t think there is any big decision I have to make — other than to play one more year or go home,” he said. “In my case, I am very happy with my career. … If I feel like I produce well to the point where I can make a good impact on a team, then I can play one more year. Or if I feel like I have [had] enough, I’ll go home.”
It will be interesting to see Beltran’s 2016 season. Some Mets fan, who are still feeling extra salty about that infamous 2006 at bat by Beltran, may be happy to see him go from the game.
