Adrien Broner Wants Title Shot After Molina Fight

AdrienBroner10

Adrien Broner isn’t shy when it comes to saying he’s one of the best boxers in the world… the problem is “The Problem” is the only one that feels that way.

“If it was up to me, I’ll fight for the title right now if I could,” said Broner. “I’ll just fight whoever they put in front of me and John Molina is the guy they put in front of me. So that’s who I’m going to fight. I’ll fight anybody, man.”

Broner at least knows that Molina won’t be a push over and that he’ll have to bring his A-game to on March 7th.

“I definitely will be world champion at 140 pounds one day,” said Broner, who unanimously decisioned Carlos Molina last May before facing Taylor, “but I have to win this fight in order for that to happen.”

We will see if Broner takes this fight seriously enough to garner a title fight. I’m sure Al Haymon would love the money behind a NBC title fight.

Adrien Broner Says He Loves All Mexicans

Adrien Broner

Adrien “The Problem” Broner cause some controversy after he won pretty easily against Carlos Molina when he said “I just beat the f*ck out of a Mexican!”

Now, he is softening his tone bit and had this to say to TMZ:

“I love all Mexicans,” Broner says … adding, “Molina put up a hard fight.”

Maybe this is the first sign of the new humble Adrien Broner.

No one ever said Adrien Broner was humble. After beating Molina very easily, he cut his own WWE style promo after the fight. Jim Gray had to tell him to settle down since he was a bit out of hand. He also threw down the challenge to Manny Pacquaio.

He’s not making friends is he? Never change Broner.

Appleton police have a misdemeanor disorderly conduct warrant out for Molina from 2005.

Carlos Molina in Jail, May Not Fight

Carlos Molina

Carlos Molina is supposed to fight Jermall Charlo on the undercard for Canelo-Angulo on Saturday but that is in jeopardy right now. Molina is in jail after he was picked up this morning. Kevin Iole had the details:

According to Abigail Gomez, a spokeswoman for the Clark County, Nev., Detention Center, Molina is wanted in Wisconsin for obstruction and failing to register as a sex offender. She said he has been placed on an immigration hold. Molina was born in Mexico but lives in the U.S.

Sgt. Dave Lund of the Appleton, Wis., police said Molina is wanted by both the Outagamie, Wis., County Sheriff and the Appleton Police Department. He is wanted by the Outagamie sheriff on the sex offense charge, charges that have been pending since January 2007, Lund said. Appleton police have a misdemeanor disorderly conduct warrant out for Molina from 2005.

He was expected to be at the press conference to day but did not make it. This isn’t how Molina saw the week leading up to his title defense going.

We will keep you posted if and when there is new news.

Win Sets Amir Khan Up For Possible Mayweather Jr Fight

Amir Khan displayed his new fighting style under trainer Virgil Hunter and it led to a 10th round stoppage against Carlos Molina in Los Angeles. With the victory Khan puts his name back into the championship conversation. The question now becomes which championship he decides to pursue…

Khan has said that he would love a November rematch with Danny Garcia, Garcia beat Khan last year to capture the WBC & WBA Junior Welterweight titles. Garcia has a February 9th fight against Zab Judah to worry about before he thinks about a rematch with Khan.

Even if Khan did land a chance at recapturing his titles in November it may not be the best move for his career. He showed the ability to avoid counter punches later in his fight against Molina and the added emphasis towards defense could allow him to take a shot at the 147 lb Welterweight division.

That division offers him the ability to take a title from multiple quality champions such as, Robert Guerrero, Devon Alexander, or Paul Malignaggi. Those three would be better punchers than Molina but Khan would carry a speed advantage in all three fights. The added bulk may also add some power to the combinations that he so often landed against Molina.

The ultimate payoff of capturing a belt in the Welterweight division would come next Spring with a possible fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. Floyd could be on the down end of his undefeated career and looking for the biggest payout possible, which Khan would most definitely prove to be. His ability to draw the international market, as well as his showmanship gives Floyd the opponent he has craved for his farewell tour.

Khan must now choose between revenge or legacy, pride or fortune. At only 25 years old he has plenty of time to repair his boxing legacy and prove that last year was an anomaly. A fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. in the future may require a bit more urgency.

Amir Khan vs Carlos Molina Weigh In Recap

The former junior welterweight titleholder, Amir Khan, takes on up and coming prospect Carlos Molina this Saturday Night. Showtime will be televising the main event live from the L.A. Memorial Sports Arena in Los Angeles. Today both Khan and Molina weighed in at exactly  the same weight, 139 lbs.

The atmosphere was light and cheerful at the weigh in. Both fighters looked focused and ready for their bout tomorrow but no animosity was shared between the fighters. Golden Boy Promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, kept the crowd energized and even brought out Santa at one point to get into the festivities. Even with all of the pageantry both fighters kept a look of determination on their face and their anticipation for the match was apparent.

Khan has been an exciting fighter his entire career and even though he has slipped out of that elite category his name still holds weight in boxing circles. Khan is looking to bounce back from his loss to Danny Garcia, a stoppage that occurred in a fight that Khan looked to be leading. Khan’s boxing future hinges on the result of this fight.

Molina is looking to propel himself to a title shot and Khan could be that launching pad that gets him there.
