The Knicks could be mathematically eliminated from the playoffs before the middle of January. Most Knicks insiders figured this would be a rebuilding year as the team paitiently waited for an offseason that would purge millions of dollars in cap relief.
I don’t think anyone expected the Knicks to be this awful. The Knicks will enter Christmas Day with 25 losses — 20 games below .500 after extending the worst start in franchise history Sunday. Star forward Carmelo Anthony can’t believe things have started out this bad.
According to the New York Post, Anthony seemed to be in a daze after Sundays loss, and told the media that “being on a 5-25 team can’t be real.”
“I sit back and think about that,’’ Anthony said of the club from two years ago. “I’m not a guy who likes to go back in the past, but seeing where we were a couple of years ago, I thought we’d build on that the next year and be better and move toward that direction. To be sitting here at 5-25, it don’t even seem real right now.’’
Anthony labored with knee pain, and needed 26 shots to score the 28 he had on Sunday.
“It’s been to that point where I can’t imagine we’d be in this situation we’re in now being 5-25,’’ Anthony said. “What are we going to do about that at this point but play these games and try to win.’’
