The first of many questions about Julio Cesar Chavez Jr’s career was answered today. He weighed in at 167.5 lbs today in San Antonio, the same as his opponent Bryan Vera.
For their previous fight Chavez Jr. had to request the fight weight be raised 4 times before the bout and each time he struggled making the weight. That lack of discipline transitioned to his in the ring performance and he was gifted the win against Vera. In our BSO cards Vera won the fight 7 rounds to 3.
This time Chavez Jr is in great shape and he’ll need to be to re-establish himself as a serious contender. Vera won’t be robbed twice and the boxing community can only hand out these horrendous victories so much.
Chavez was interviewed by Top Rank’s Crystina Poncher and had this to say,
“I made the weight. I win tomorrow.”
Bryan Vera told Crystina,
“I’m glad he made the weight. It’s a fair fight. I just know I’m going to win again.”
Chavez has lived off of his dad’s fame and reputation so far in his career but now it’s time to step up to a real challenge.
