The nationally televised match-up between the Heat and the Spurs was supposed to be an exciting game between two title contenders…that is until Spurs coach Greg Popovich decided to bench their stars Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, and Manu Ginobili, citing the importance of managing a tough schedule with aging stars.
Tonight before the game NBA Commissioner David Stern issued an apology to NBA Fans.
“I apologize to all NBA fans. This was an unacceptable decision by the San Antonio Spurs and substantial sanctions will be forthcoming.”
Stern does not seem happy about this at all, and he appears to be sending a message to not only the Spurs, but to the league that benching players will not be tolerated.
