DeMarre Carroll has played his way into a major pay day this summer. The Defensive minded 3 point shooting small forward had 7 games in the playoffs of 20 points or more. Carroll will be an unrestricted free agent this summer. ESPN’s Kevin Arnovitz is reporting that teams are prepared to offer Carroll 4 years and $50 Million.
The Summer 2015 does not have the big names superstars. Many of the bigger names are restricted free agents; Draymond Green, Kawhi Leonard, Jimmy Butler so that adds to the risk of making a move. LaMarcus Aldridge and Marc Gasol being two of the bigger free agents. But with the NBA salary cap expected to jump to $66 Million next season and $80 Million the following season teams are going to have to spend that money quickly. The CBA requires teams in the NBA to spend at least 90% of the salary cap on players salary. Next season their are 16 teams that are in danger of receiving a tax for not spending enough money. After Aldridge and Gasol receive their max contracts and Green, Leonard and Butler receiver theirs. Teams will be looking to the rest of the best to fill cap spots.
The Hawks are believed to like Carroll but Paul Millsap is also an unrestricted Free Agent and looking for a max deal extension. Hawks have new ownership, we will see how generous they will be with opening the wallets for Carroll.
