Whenever Dirk Nowitzki decides to hang up the sneakers, he’ll go down as one of the best shooters of all-time. However, during the early stages of his career, the 7-footer would at times be too tensed at the charity stripe.
In order for Dirk to become more relaxed at the line, a coach gave him some interesting advice.
I got this coach of mine. And his idea one time when I missed a couple pressure free throws, a while back. And he said, ‘I think you’re a little too tense, you’re trying to focus too much. Why don’t you try singing a song at the line? And I looked at him like he was out of his mind. Then I actually tried it sometimes and it worked.
During Dirk’s radio interview, he was gracious enough to recite some of the lyrics.
