Angels great Vlad Guerrero was on hand for Los Angeles’ Opening Day game against the Mariners to throw out the first pitch to new hitting coach Don Baylor. Things seemed to be going swimmingly until Baylor’s right leg buckled and he crumpled to the ground trying to catch Guerrero’s ceremonial toss. The leg buckled a second time as Guerrero tried helping Baylor to his feet, and the Angels coach was helped off the field.
The 64-year-old Baylor was taken to UCI Medical Center to be examined, and the news was about as bad as you could imagine.
INJURY UPDATE – Don Baylor sustained a fractured right femur. The Halos batting coach will have surgery tomorrow.
