Whoa where do I begin.
I am a Philadelphia native and resident so I am deeply entrenched in Sixers news.
This statement might have shocked the casual sports fan, accept I’m not casual and I’ve heard it said before.
Andrew Bynum has 76ers fever heated up right now, and with good cause.
The Sixers potentially do have their best well rounded big man since Moses Malone.
I was here for the Theo Ratliff years and he was purely defense.
I was here for the trade for Dikembe, and even though it was an epic trade and had the city buzzing, his inability to play any offense helped in the 2001 NBA Finals demise.
Enter Andrew Bynum acquired in a trade from the Lakers.
On paper and potential wise Bynum can be the best center in the game, he just has to want to be.
The fresh topic of the summer has been who’s the best center in the game Andrew Bynum or Dwight Howard.
Most pundits easily go with Howard who won three straight defensive player of the year awards up until this season.
There are few who will pick Bynum, but one has emerged.
John Mitchell of the Philadelphia Inquirer recently sat down with newly signed Sixer Dorrell Wright, and he gave his input from a players perspective on who the best center was.
When asked who the better big man was Wright says he pulled no punches when he stated Bynum.
“He’s going to need two defenders to stop him; I would say he’s the best big man in the NBA right now, hands down,” Wright, speaking at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, said. “He’s a guy that can give you baskets with his back to the basket; a guy who makes free throws at 7-feet. You’ve just got to respect him.”
Mitchell stopped Wright and asked him if his comments were due to the two now being teammates. Wright answered again confidently.
“No way, I’d say it any day. It’s because I know he can put his back to the basket and give us a basket and request a double team and make free throws,” Wright continued. “It’s his all-around game. Hopefully he can stay healthy and we can ride, he can put us on his back and he can take us as far as we can go.”
I don’t know people.
Who do you think is the better big man?
Right not forget all the past accomplishments?
