The Bills picked EJ Manuel in the first round for a reason. They saw his abilities when the media was only salivating over Geno Smith. Now it seems that the Bills may get what they want from Manuel in the upcoming season. Many people thought that Manuel was going to quietly ride the pine, while getting good veteran tips from Kevin Kolb. However, as NFL.com is reporting it may be Kolb who may need to take a page out of Manuel’s playbook.
Manuel has reportedly looked as the QB that Buffalo needs; confident and comfortable. On the other hand, Kolb has proven to be less than stellar; showing poor pocket presence and his accuracy hasn’t been up to par either. When speaking to GM Doug Whaley, you can tell that his mind is focused on Manuel and not Kolb:
“Most successful quarterbacks have that ‘it’ factor. (Manuel) has that ‘it’ factor. When he walks into a room, there’s a presence and people take notice. He’s going to be the face of our franchise, and it’s not too big for him.”
If this is the kind of glowing report coming straight from the GM’s mouth, I don’t expect to see Kevin Kolb on the field when the first game of the season starts. The Bills are EJ’s team, and there are clearly more than whispers about it. Doug Whaley himself is screaming that loud and clear.
