Welcome to ‘this month’s highlights by Eb the Celeb.’ Look out for a special post from yours truly on the last day of every month recapping on the wild, crazy, stupid, and wonderful things our favorite athletes have done throughout the month. Sometimes you don’t have time to catch news on the daily so in case you missed anything, I got you!
March Madness was more than just a term used for the NCAA basketball tournament the past month with DUI’s, break ups, custody battles, and this unfortunate NFL lock out so let’s get right into it.
Tiki Barber has had more snafoos than a lil’ bit the past couple of years and he’s making another one thinking that a NFL team actually cares if he comes out of retirement.
“After seeing how much fun (twin brother) Ronde is still having, it reignited my fire and I’m looking forward to the challenge of seeing if I can get back to the level of where I was,” Barber told FOXSports.com.
I’m sure with this lock out, NFL teams have bigger problems right now than worrying about the soon to be 36 year old former running back. You had the worst year ever when you retired and the giants came back the next season and won a super bowl and I don’t think you should hold your breath on any NFL team taking chances on your old limbs.
Giants made it clear that they don’t want him and would relinquish Barber’s right as soon as they are able. According to ProFootballTalk.com. “We wish Tiki nothing but the best, and when we are able to make the transaction, we will release him from our reserve/retired list.”
Speaking of the NFL lockout one of my favorite players Adrian Peterson went on the record siting NFL owners withholding information is “modern-day slavery.” Peterson wants info… continuing “. . . If they have nothing to hide, just give us the information. Why not? Obviously, there’s a lot to hide — these guys are professionals, and they’re maximizing what they do. But they know that if all this information comes out, the information the players want, it’ll be right out there for everyone to see. It’s a rip-off — not just for the players, but for the people who work at the concession stands and at the stadiums.”
A lot of other players came out feeling it was tasteless to compare being a NFL player to slavery and I agree. Did slaves get paid millions of dollars to work on the plantation? I think not but I definitely get his point. I remember I was at an ESPN celebrity fantasy football draft a couple years ago and refrigerator perry was there. Knees so bad that he couldn’t even walk up the stairs at the 40/40 club to the VIP area. I felt so bad and stopped and talked to him about it for a couple minutes. No amount of money is worth that sort of pain for the rest of your life and the NFL needs to take responsibility for taking care of their players during and after their careers. It’s only right considering all the money they make them.
Now enough of the mooshy stuff!
Once you go black you never go back. Or at least until you are white and your wife has a black baby. Rumor has it Steve Nash divorced his wife Alejandra a day after they had their 3rd child because the child came out black. I know I shouldn’t be laughing but this story brought me to tears. I wish there was a camera rolling in the delivery room when the baby was delivered. I would pay to see that.
Steve Nash wasn’t the perfect husband. The entire time he had a black side piece. So he can’t really get mad at his wife now can he? Nash and his ex-wife sure do love them some chocolate.
Does anyone care that Ocho Cinco tried out for a soccer team and didn’t make it? I didn’t think so… let’s move on.
The highlight for this month in sports for me though was watching the Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Miami Heat. Throws chalk dust in the air. I said when this so-called Dream Team came together that this would not be the answer to Lebron’s lack of championship ring problem. Cleveland deserved that win!
Although my favorite player Dwyane Wade is losing on the court, he’s winning off the court. As of earlier this month he officially has custody of his two sons after a long battle against his crazy ex-wife.
Read a portion of the ruling given by Judge Renee G. Goldfarb below.
“This court finds that [Siohvaughn Wade] has embarked on an unstoppable and relentless pattern of conduct for over two years to alienate the children from their father, and lacks either the ability or the willingness to facilitate, let alone encourage, a close and continuing relationship between them.”
I want to slap the mess out of Ohio State, Lousieville, and Florida for messing up my damn bracket. Since UConn is the only person in left in the final four that I actually had in my final four, I’m rooting for them to go all the way.
I must end with some positivity. We made history this month! The first all black polo team won the national championship. Congratulations to Philly’s own Kareem Rosser, 18, Daymar Rosser, 16, and Brandon Rease, 15.
Can’t wait to see what foolishness and triumphs these athletes get into in April. You know when the weather starts getting nice their “act up meter” goes way up!
