The Buffalo Bills have announced that 2013 first rd pick EJ Manuel has been benched in favor of Kyle Orton. EJ Manuel has been under fire from the Buffalo media since training camp, and Coach Doug Marrone finally decided to pull the trigger on giving his team the best chance to win. Manuel is coming off of a very poor performance in a winnable game against the Houston Texans. Manuel looked uncomfortable in the pocket all afternoon, getting hit 16 times and threw for a poultry 5.1 yards per pass attempt. Manuel spoke about his confidence being rattled after Sunday’s loss to the Texans.
“For my confidence, it’s a matter of learning, continuing to learn,” Manuel said. “Understand that you can’t walk around with your tail between your legs. Be a man. It is what it is. We lost a game. We didn’t play as well as we wanted to.””I think it’s all a part of maturing as a man and as a quarterback,” Manuel said. “Nobody said it was going to be easy, plain and simple. (Can) we can look back at this at the end of the season and be 14-2? Who knows? I think the biggest thing for our team and for myself is to learn from it, accept it, be a man about it. Don’t shy away from it. It is what it is. We lost a game. At the same time, come back even harder and be even more prepared than we’ve ever been prepared for Detroit.”
