This is turning into a bitter break up between Eric Weddle and the San Diego Chargers. There has been a lot of back and forth between Weddle and the Chargers this year about a contract extension. Not only have the talks been shut down, the Chargers look like the soon to be bitter ex in this situation.
The Chargers fined Weddle $10,000 last week for staying on the field during halftime to watch his daughter perform as part of the halftime show. According to BleacherReport.com, Weddle is furious about the fine although he did not inform team officials that he would be skipping out on the lockerroom to watch his daughter dance. To rub it in a little more, the Chargers placed Weddle on IR and told him he wasn’t allowed to travel with team because the plane was “too small.”
I’ve never heard of a player not being able to travel because the plane was too small and to be honest, it doesn’t sound like a legit excuse. More than anything Weddle and the Chargers are in a relationship, via contract, that has gone sour and they are just pushing each other away. Both could have handled the situation better but I would not have missed my daughter’s halftime performance either if I was Weddle.
