Spoelestra was in position to set off a huge bidding war for his services not seen since Phil Jackson hit the coaching market. Yahoo is reporting that Spoelesta would have gotten the LeBron James or big free agent treatment from team executives.
Spoelstra, 42, is 260-134 (.660) in five seasons as Miami’s coach, including three straight trips to the NBA Finals and two titles. He’s 50-29 (.633) in five trips to the postseason.
