Turns out Big Brother is always watching…even at Best Buy. The FBI has been accused of using Geek Squad members as informants.
Allegedly, the FBI and Best Buy have worked together since 2007 to ensure that at least one supervisor is an active informant.
Orange County doctor Mark A. Rettenmaier was indicted in 2014 on two counts of possession of child pornography after images were found on his computer. The FBI is accused of having paid a Geek Squad member $500 to snoop through the doctor’s files when he brought his computer in for repair.
I wonder if the allegations will prompt Apple to stop requiring a device password when you visit the Genius Bar for routine repairs.
