A few days ago we reported on the framework for a seven-year $175 million for the Mariners and pitcher Felix Hernandez. Now ESPN is reporting that a failed physical, and elbow issues could hold that up.
According to reports, the two sides are no where close to finalizing the deal because of issues the two sides are working through, including the severity of a perceived elbow issue for Hernandez.
“It’s an issue,” said one source.
Hernandez is signed for the next two seasons, so there is time for the two sides to continue to work to a deal; the team wants Hernandez, and Hernandez has said he wants to stay in Seattle.
The team could put a medical exception clause in his contract, similar to the one CC Sabathia got from the Yankees.
