Swedish rookie golfer Daniel Holmqvist is lucky to even be alive after taking a black widow spider bite to her leg while teeing off on the 4th hole.
The bizarre incident took place in the qualifier for the Women’s Australian Open, but the real strange things took place afterwards.
After the bite Australian caddies readily identified the spider that bit her as a Black Widow–the infamous arachnid which has been known to kill children from its venom in a half hour’s time. So what’s a young golfer playing for a coveted spot in a big Open to do?
As reported by Golf Digest here’s what happened:
Her caddies told her that the venom from a Black Widow can sometimes kill a child in half an hour, so Holmqvist knew she had to act fast. With her leg swelling, Holmqvist reached into her pocket and pulled out a tee. She quickly cut open her skin and squeezed the venom out.
“A clear fluid came out,” Holmqvist said. “It wasn’t the prettiest thing I’ve ever done, but I had to get as much of it out of me as possible.”
After the quasi-surgery Daniela continued on with the round, and came up just four shots shy of qualifying. An amazing feat considering the fact she was just bitten by a black widow and took the venom out with a golf tee… The following tweet by Daniela perfectly sums up her new ‘badass’ status throughout the sports world
So there is “the shark” “pink panther” etc am I “the spider woman” now? Better than “the kangaroo lady” though..
