A fitness coach has revealed her secret to a successful morning routine – and the three things that could be ruining your day before it even begins.
Lauren Simpson, from Sydney, who is best known for sharing healthy living tips, revealed that setting multiple alarms, scrolling through social media, and having unrealistic expectations can sabotage your day.
‘I haven’t always been a morning person – but over the last few years it’s definitely become my favourite part of the day. I usually wake up at 4:30am and start my day then,’ the 32-year-old fitness expert said in on Instagram.
Lauren reminded her followers that what worked for her may not work for everyone, but that there were a few key things that everyone should consider if they want to have a productive and successful morning.
Multiple alarms repeatedly cause the brain to start waking up and then settle again, only to be jolted awake a few minutes later.
Repetitive awakenings disrupt sleep quality and are an extremely inefficient way of getting extra sleep, according to Head Space.
Instead, it is recommended to set your alarm for a later time which can help you enjoy a longer sleep without being disrupted.
‘If you set alarms for ’06:00′, ’06:05′, ’06:10′ … and so on, you are setting yourself up to make excuses,’ Lauren said. ‘It makes you wish you could stay in bed just five more minutes or just ten more minutes.’
‘Instead, we want to set just one alarm and when that one alarm goes off, this is when you are going to jump out of bed.’
Scrolling through social media as soon as you wake up can change your mood from proactive to reactive.
‘This is putting the power in other people’s hands to dictate your day,’ Lauren said. ‘You don’t want any external influences to impact how you wake up and feel.’
