The flyweights may be among boxing’s smallest weight classes but on Saturday night, these big punching dynamos look to step out of the shadows of the big boys to deliver an action-filled show filled with the very best of the division in three intense match-ups.
In the main event, WBC Super Flyweight World Champion Srisaket Sor Rungvisai of Thailand defends the title against Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez. In their previous March meeting, Rungvisai dropped Gonzalez in the first round and spent stretches of time head butting the now former champion into a bloody mess to win by majority decision.
In the co-feature Nagoya Inoue of Japan defends his WBO Super Flyweight Title against challenger Antonio Nieves of Ohio. With former WBC former WBC Super Flyweight World Champion Carlos Cuadras opening the HBO broadcast against Juan Francisco Estrada.
Predictions:
Srisaket Sor Rungvisai vs. Roman Chocolatito Gonzalez:
Rungvisai’s victory in the first match-up by majority decision was a shocker despite Gonzalez bloody appearance at the final bell. If the former champion Gonzalez can evade blatant head butting and mount a sustained body attack, he will become champion once more.
Winner: Gonzalez by UD.
Nagoya Inoue vs. Antonio Nieves:
Nagoya Inoue may not be a household name is the United States but his ring presence and domination is sending waves throughout the division. With thirteen professional fights under his belt, winning eleven by knockout, its unlikely Nieves posses the firepower to keep Inoue at bay. Inoue is expected to dominate every aspect of the fight.
Winner: Inoue by 7th Round Knockout
Carlos Cuadras vs. Juan Francisco Estrada
An über competitive match-up between two former champions. Looking less than his best in his last fight against David Carmona, Cuadras managed to dig deep to pull out the victory. Estrada on the other hand has been on a hot streak winning consistently since 2012 and shows no signs of stopping. Expect Estrada to turn up the heat and his hunger to do whatever he can to win.
Winner: Estrada by UD.
